ATC Butterfly Swap

If you didn’t already know…. I REALLY LIKE BUTTERFLIES!!  Below are my offerings for an ATC butterfly swap.  Hope you like!

I sought an image that represented a caterpillar’s change into a butterfly.  I found this image and immediately knew it was the one.  With some re-sizing and tracing with a light box I colored it with combination of micron pens, Tombow markers and Faber Castell pencils.  The background is a Prima Marketing pad.  I die cut some tiny butterflies and branches with dies from Impression Obsession and added some fitting words from Tim Holtz and one tiny tattered flower of his as well.  I love the idea of the caterpillar looking into the mirror and seeing the other side of who she will become.  There’s something pretty profound in that. Huh…..

Since I’m a fan of steampunk, I couldn’t resist the idea of a steampunk butterfly.  The majority of these were done with Tim Holtz items, from the background paper, to the Gearhead dies, to the words.  The butterfly is a stamp and die set from the Art C brand that I happened to pick up from Michael’s.  I used my Liquitex inks for the colors and splotches on each card.

This one took some trial and error but again the idea had been in my head for a while.  I won’t bore you with the trial and error parts of which there were many.  I used Dylusions sprays for the backgrounds followed by the Dina Wakely stamp set called Gal Quotes.  I only partially stamped the images since I didn’t want the hair.  They were getting my stylized butterfly hair!  I searched every stamp set I own and couldn’t believe I couldn’t find one with a small enough butterfly to fit my need!  Finally, the very last stamp set which is some obscure set I got as a give away had one!  I couldn’t believe it.  I used various colors of Archival Inks for the hair and then a bit of Peerless watercolors for a little “makeup” and clothing colors.  A teenie tiny Impression Obsession butterfly die was used for their hair ornament.

Hope you enjoyed my butterfly swap cards!
